Every Sinner Has a Divine Future

The world seems to be full of evil. The fall in values and morally is visible in every aspect of human life. There are very few people who are good while most of the people seems to be full of evil. It is natural to wonder, who has made the these people who have no qualm in committing crime against humanity and God. No amount of punishment and law enforcement seems to reduce the crime that is increasing day by day. People often remember the good old days as they believe that the earlier times were better when there was much lesser crime and evil.

Yet, the world seems to be always full of criminals and sinner. There is one such interesting story in Bible which reads as follows (John: 8: 1-11)

A woman was brought before Jesus by the people. They say unto him, “Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?” Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them,

He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

When they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last. Jesus said to the woman, “Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?” She said, “No man, Lord”. And Jesus said unto her, “Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more”.

This episode of Bible clearly demonstrate that even then there was hardly any one in the society who was not a sinner. Yet when we speak, we only find sin in other men and not in us. The reason for not finding sin in us is the lack of courage to tell the world the voice of our conscious. Otherwise, we would perhaps notice that we are the biggest sinner of the world as famous Sufi poet Kabir said in the following couplet

I went to find evil in others,

I found there no evil;

When I saw in my heart,

I was the biggest devil

We all commit crimes and evil in our life, though very few have the courage to admit it. Yet we can’t lie to self and we know in the heart of our heart the evil we have done. So does God knows about our evil. Does it mean that criminals and sinners have no future and no chance of salvation. If we believe the scriptures, we may find that sinner have better chances of being divine than the ordinary people as the path of divinity passes through the evil heart.

Every Saint has A Past

Very few people know the past of the saints and prophets because, the follower of these saints often conceal their past. There have been innumerable controversies about the personal life of Jesus and Prophet Mohammad. People know the end but they are not aware of the path followed by them to reach to the end. However, history is witness to the fact that most saints have not so glorious past and they had passed through the path of evil before acquiring saint hood.

Saint Tulsidas, the writer of the epic, Ramcharitmanas (The story of Ram), is the most revered poet in India. Yet in his early days, he was a man of sensual passion and uncontrolled sexual desire. Once when his wife went to her parents’ home, he could not control his lust. So he went to meet his wife in the dark night. When he found nothing to help him climb the window of her wife’s room, he used the skin of a snake to climb to the room. When his wife saw him there, she said, “Had you loved Lord so much, you would have got Him.”. This comment hurt Tulsidas so much that he immediately decided to leave his wife and family. Soon he became the most famous saint of India , whose story of Ram is known to every household to India.

Valmiki, the writer of the Sanskrit “Ramayana” too was a bandit in his early life. Once he wanted to rob few saints, when one of the saints asked him, “Why is he doing these sinful acts.”. “I am doing it for my family” replied Valmiki. The saints asked him if his family member would share his sin. He said yes. The saints asked him to get it confirmed form his family. He went to his home and asked this question to every one. However, none wanted to share his sin. Then he realized his mistake started prayer and meditation and soon became a great saint.

In the modern time, Mahatma Gandhi too was man of lust in his early life. When his father, whom he loved so much, was on his deathbed, he could not control his lust and went to his wife for consummation. Still with her in the bed, when he was informed about the death of his father. This incident shook the young Gandhi and brought him in the path of abstinence and renunciation making him one of the greatest saint in the modern world.

The world is quick to brand every person a sinner or criminal at the earlier opportunity as they do not love the fellow human beings. The Lord can never thing of any person as a sinner as every one is His children. Imagine that you have two children. One is a sinner and one is not. For whom your responsibilities are higher? Whom would you like to reform? Whom would you like to give your divine power and wisdom?

The answer seems to be the child, who does have lost the connection with divinity. If the man is divine, he needs no divine blessing as he is already divine. An average human being to does not crave for divinity as he has some divine nature already in him. However, if a man is evil, he need divine blessing and support to become free from evil and to acquire his divine nature.

The Birth of God in Evil Heart

Scripture say that the goodness is often born from evil just like evil is born from good. Lord Krishna said in Gita (IV: 7, 8)

Whenever Right declines and Evil prevails, then I always take birth to save the Right and destroy the Evil and establish Righteousness.

This couplet of Gita is often referred to refer the concept of Avatar (incarnation) of God in this world, to defeat the evil forces and establish the rule of righteousness. However, many saints believe that what is true in the world or universe must also be true on the micro-universe which is our own self as the man himself is the reflection of the universe (Aham Brahmasmi ).

Therefore, when any person follows the path of evil, soon he would feel the craving to do good and become good due to the emergence of God in him. The more evil one has committed, the more burden he carries in his conscious. Therefore, a criminal or an evil does has very strong desire to become good. This desire cause the birth or God or divinity in the human being.

Every Sinner has a Future

However, an evil person can not become divine automatically. He has to seek God from the deepest of his heart. Every religion provide for repentance for seeking forgiveness from God. In India the corresponding word is Prayashchit (To return to one’s original conscious). God is all merciful and forgiving. If any person repent for his evil deeds with clear conscious, Lord forgives him like a loving father and guide him to the righteous path by transforming his nature.

Why then every evil person does not become good? The answer seems to be in the lack of courage and the absence of a trigger. The birth of God in the heart of man is almost an spontaneous moment. Only if the person desires God desperately and sincerely, He manifests himself in the heart of the person. This extreme desire comes only when a person looks into his conscious and develops courage to leave the path of evil which has brought him nothing but pain and misery. When such moment arrive, a strong desire is created in the conscious to become good and then God takes birth in the heart of the person and transforms the person to make him a saint and a prophet.
