Rock gardens bring natures beauty to your yard when added to your landscape. They can be an addition to the landscape of a water garden, pond or built to add dimension to a level yard. They are an ideal way to stop erosion of a steep hill and add natural beauty to the landscape.

Building a rock garden in your yard can also benefit your vegetable garden. The attraction of beneficial insects and other natural predators like birds and toads to your yard to help with insect control. Start out with a small garden or even more than one that you can easily handle. They can be added on to when ever you feel the need.

A rock garden can be used for either flowering plants or vegetable plants. Beets, cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce and even onions are ideal crops that can be used to accent a garden along with larger flowering plants. In the summer months lettuce likes to be keep cool and partial shade will do it good.

The soil conditions of your garden will determine what types of plants you can grow. You can add amendments to the soil just as you would in any garden. There are also large variety of plants that will thrive in poor soil conditions or even lack of sunshine. If you have an area with these conditions in your yard or an area that is to stony to make any type of decent yard or garden then it could be the perfect site to create a rock garden.

Creating an environment to attract wildlife to your rock garden such as birds, butterflies and frogs will make it a nice soothing place to go and relax and watch nature in your own yard.
