After you have planned your vacation to Aruba, you may be wondering what to pack. To ensure that you don’t experience any unwelcome surprises at either your departing airport or the Aruba Airport, make note of the guidelines in this article. The following is a convenient outline of what you can and cannot pack when traveling to Aruba and some added travel tips to make your vacation as enjoyable as possible.

First, make sure you pack all your important personal belongings such as travel documents, personal identification and medications in your carry-on luggage. Do not place locks on your carry-on baggage, as this could cause unnecessary delays when passing through screening.

Try to arrive at your departing airport three hours before the scheduled flight time. When you are ready to fly home, you must also allot approximately three hours for check-in and screening at the Aruba Airport, especially if your return flight is between 11 AM and 3 PM.

Due to recent concerns, liquids, gels and aerosols are no longer allowed in the carry-on baggage of all travelers on flights arriving to, traveling within or departing from the United States. Effective August 11, 2006, the following items must be placed in your checked baggage when traveling to Aruba, until further notice from the U.S. government:

All beverages and liquid food items such as yogurt

Skin lotions, creams or balms including suntan lotion and hand sanitizing products

Tooth Paste

Mouthwash

Shampoo

Hair gels and pomades

Hair spray or any other type of aerosol products

Liquid cosmetics such as lip gloss and mascara

Obviously, there are some exceptions to the restriction on liquids and gels. The following items are allowed in carry-on baggage when traveling to Aruba, but make note of the documentation and packaging that some items may require:

Prescription medicine - medication or dispenser must be properly marked with a professionally printed label or pharmaceutical label identifying the medication or the manufacturer’s name. If for some reason you don’t have a professionally printed label, you must obtain a doctor’s note.

Non-prescription saline solution and eye care products (under 4 ounces per container)

Liquid insulin and dispensing products for diabetic passengers (under 5 ounces per container) - must be properly marked with a professionally printed or pharmaceutical label identifying the medication or the manufacturer’s name

Solid cosmetics and personal hygiene items including lipstick in a tube, solid deodorant and lip balm

Baby formula, milk and food - only allowed if a baby or small child is traveling with you

Gels, saline solutions or other liquids worn as detachable items used to augment portions of the body for medical or cosmetic reasons - includes gel bras.

Duty free liquor, perfume and cosmetics items purchased within the airport terminal areas will given to you by the duty free operator after reclaiming your checked luggage.

If you are concerned about any item packed in your carry-on baggage, contact your travel agent or airline before arriving at the airport or simply ask personnel at the time of check-in. You can still place the above-mentioned restricted items in your checked baggage before proceeding to security screening.

It is also suggested that you try to minimize the amount of metal you wear. Large belt buckles, clothing with metal buttons, some jewelry and metal toed or heeled footwear can set off security checkpoint metal detectors. This will require additional searches, slowing you and other travelers down. Therefore, while you are waiting in line, it is recommended that place your keys, jewelry or watches, coins, belts and any other metal items in your carry-on baggage until you clear security. You will also be asked to remove your shoes at the checkpoint and place them in a tray to be x-rayed.

As was the case before the new regulations in August, electronic devices such as mobile phones, PDAs, cameras, CD and MP3 players are still allowed in carry-on luggage. However, be prepared to remove your laptop computer from its case and place it on the x-ray belt by itself. It is generally recommended to attach a name and contact information label to the bottom of your laptop in case any confusion arises passing through security. Also, it is still advised that you pack all film in your carry-on luggage. If you have any concerns about your film going through the x-ray system, you can request that it be hand-inspected by a security screener.

When planning your vacation to Aruba, it is also very important to note that effective January 8, 2007, the U.S. Government will require passports for all air and sea travel to and/or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Bermuda and The Bahamas. It is advised to allow six to eight weeks to process passport applications before your vacation to Aruba.

Stocks 101

Simply put, when you purchase stock in a company, you become part-owner of that company. Along with other shareholders, you all combine as investors in the business, and therefore reap its rewards, or suffer its losses. Stocks are most commonly divided into separate categories depending on the size and type of the company (e.g., mid-cap, small-cap, energy, tech, etc.).

While speculation can drive stock prices in the short term, it’s long-term company earnings that determine a stocks gains or losses. Speaking of short term, that’s when stocks are extremely volatile. Over a span of just a few months or years, stocks can climb to astronomic heights or drop to pitiful lows. But, since 1926, the average stock has returned over 10 percent per year. That’s better than any other investment vehicle out there, and that’s why stocks are your best bet for long-term investment.

Picking Stocks

Before you dive head-first into the market, there are a few things you should know about picking stocks. First, the market’s performance as a whole is not necessarily a reflection of its individual stocks. Good stocks can keep growing even in a down market, while bad stocks have the frustrating tendency to drop or remain stagnant in a strong market.

Also, remember that history is not indicative of a stock’s future performance. Even solid stocks can slip from time to time. Remember that stock prices are based on a company’s earnings outlook, not its past performance. If the future looks bright for a company, a $100 dollar stock is probably a good buy. If earnings look less than promising, even a $5 stock can be a waste. Finally, investors determine a stock’s value by measuring a handful of primary criteria, most notably cash flow, earnings, and revenue.

“Diversify”

It’s the rallying cry of all smart investors. When compiling an investment portfolio of stocks, it’s smart to own shares in companies from several different industries. Consider it a “hedge bet”. When one part of the economy experiences a downturn, you’ll have other stocks in your portfolio to put your faith in.

When building your portfolio, the safest bet is to pick from financially strong businesses with earnings growth above the average. Surprisingly, that limits the lot to choose from, as only around 200 stocks today fit that bill. A solid portfolio features somewhere in the ballpark of 20 stocks selected from seven or more industries. A general rule of thumb is to invest in stocks with an above-average rate of growth and reasonable valuations.

Buy and Hold

Day trading is a great way to lose your nest egg, but quick. As we noted before, stocks over the short term are highly volatile. Sure, brokers today are offering cheap trades, but beware. There are a ton of hidden fees and taxes involved with day trading, not to mention the amount of attention required by you to monitor the blow-by-blow proceedings of the market. The joy of the mountain bike is that they come with so many gears that, if you shift into the lowest one, you can ride up a mountain with no problem. It may take you all day, but you can do it.

It’s been a long time since the “10-speed” bike was the ne plus ultra of biking sophistication when it came to gears. These days, especially in mountain bikes, you can get anything up to 27 speeds.

What are all these gears in aid of? Quite simply, they allow you to pedal at the same cadence - regardless of whether you’re going uphill, downhill, or cross country.

However, the main reason why mountain bikes have so many gears is to assist you in climbing up those mountains!

The main thing to remember when shifting is that you must always shift while pedaling, otherwise you’ll strip the gears.

Front Derailleur

The gears are divided into two parts. There are three chain rings in the front, which are controlled by the left hand gear shifter. That’s why there are 3 numbers to choose from on that gear shifter - to choose which of three front rings your chain will rest on. The “derailleur” attached to the gear shifter moves the chain from one ring to another.

When the chain is on the smallest of these three chain rings (1), pedaling will be very easy. This is called the granny gear. The second chain ring is for level, off road riding (2), and the third, or largest chain ring, is good for riding on pavement.

So if you want to use just those three gears, you can certainly do so. But, using the right hand shifter, you can take advantage of the increments of gears available to you.

Rear Derailleur

The back chain ring is a cog set featuring seven, eight or nine cogs, depending on how many “speeds” you have (21, 24 or 27). Each cog is of a different size, and again, the smaller size cogs will enable you to pedal very, very easily - but not go very fast, while the larger size cogs will allow you to go further with each downward stroke of the pedal.

The best thing to do is to practice, practice, practice. Take your bike to a parking lot or somewhere where you don’t have to worry about people, and shift from one gear to another, getting used to each one and how easy or difficult it is to pedal while in that gear.

People new to biking might be rather wary of shifting gears. Shifting always was a bit problematic during the “old days” - when one only had a pair of center mounted levels to work with, but now gear shifters - the twist type - are so easy to use that there is no reason to be afraid of shifting. Again, as long as you’re pedaling while you shift, you won’t hurt the gears.

After you know the basics, you’ll realize that you’ll never gain any inbound links in significant numbers unless you have something of value to offer. Do you have articles? Can you educate your consumer? If not, then what else can you put on your website that will attract inbound links? what other “gimmick” or usflul reason is there for someone to point their web visitors your way?

If you’re a contractor, how about assembling a resource center for your potential clients? Where exactly should they file their building permits and how? where should they go to compain about a bad contractor? Got links, phone numbers and addresses for all of the city and state offices they could possibly need? Who has the best prices in town (or shortest waits for service) on lumber and other home supplies? Make a good one, promote it on Craigs list and in forums, and local sites will mention and link to you.

If you’re a real estate or mortgage broker, then mortgage calculators and easy home locators have long been tools that any decent site should have, but what if you’re in a more unique business? It just requires some thought…perhaps a survey of existing customers would help. look at competing websites and see what they’re doing. Don’t steal their ideas… do something better!

What other tools can help your clients more easily find what they’re looking for? Another resource center perhaps, for new home owners? A downloadable change of address kit, or information about all of the utility and service companies for your city or town?

A bookeeper might have developed their own spread sheet for calculating their customers profit and loss for a business. A plumber might have tips about what drains go where in your home, and pictures of what @#$%! fittings go with what parts . (that’s something I could have used recently).

To become a top search result for any subject, you have to become the foremost authority on that subject. Be creative, give people something of value, and when they like it, you’ll get something in return…inbound links.

In fact, the average person spends less than 1 minute brushing their teeth and spends even less time flossing. Brushing Tips

1. Place the toothbrush bristles against the gums at a 45-degree angle.

2. Move the brush back and forth gently in short (one tooth wide) strokes. All surfaces of the teeth need to be cleaned: the inner areas (by the tongue), the outside areas (by the cheeks and lips), and the grooved biting surfaces.

3. Turn the brush to use the whole length of it to clean the insides of the upper and lower front teeth.

4. Brush teeth for 2-3 minutes.

Flossing Tips

1. Break off about 15 inches of strong floss and wind most of it around one of your middle fingers. Alternatively, you can tie the two ends of the floss together to form a circle.

2. Wind some of the floss around a finger of the other hand.

3. Hold the floss taunt between your thumbs and forefingers. Guide the floss between your teeth using a gentle back and forth motion. Do not snap the floss between the teeth.

4. After the floss is through the tight area between the two teeth, curve it into a C shape against one tooth. Gently slide it up and down the tooth and under the gum line.

5. Do the same thing for the side of the other tooth.

6. Advance the floss so you use a clean area between each tooth.

7. Remember to floss behind the molars.

Tongue Cleaning Tips

1. Gently brush the tongue with a regular toothbrush dipped in an antibacterial mouthwash.

2. Reach back as far as you can without hurting yourself. At first, you may gag, but practice will decrease this natural urge.

3. Rinse the toothbrush well and repeat a few times until the white coating on the surface of the tongue is removed.

4. Be gentle so the delicate tissues are not damaged.

5. Special tongue cleaning devices may be used. Gently scrape the surface of the tongue according to the manufacturer’s directions.
